The ability to identify colours is considered a milestone in a child’s cognitive process and is often part of early screening for development and educational admittance. Recognizing the colours and identifying the colour names is an important part of a child’s development. Early identification of colours helps to create the cognitive link between visual clues and words.
To give a hands on experience related to the theme ‘Green and yellow colours’, Little SGKians were taken to B’lany D’Souza’s Terrace Garden, Mangalore on Friday, 10/01/2020.
The objective of the activity was to reinforce the topic of green and yellow colour, to inculcate the love for the environment and to relish the beauty of nature. The children were introduced to different type of plants in the garden. They observed and explored variety of shrubs, trees, creepers, herbs, fruits, vegetables and colourful flowers and eagerly interacted with the gardener. They learned that we can grow all types of plants and trees in the tiniest of spaces. Plants can be grown in pots, plant bags, hungand baskets.
The little learners were responsible and refrained themselves from touching the plants and plucking leaves or flowers as instructed to them. This field trip sensitized the students towards caring for the environment and the importance of plants.
All these activities of the day helped in enhancing the cognitive skills of the children besides boosting their aesthetic development.
